(04) Peter and Bette's adventure
A brief account of the places we visited.

This is a typical view of a gorge and I should point out that in the Kimberley and the Pibarra, there are many such places but most are in remote outback locations and not accessible to the average person.

The little blond girl was the daughter of a Dutch couple in our tour group and if you look closely you will see she is nursing a baby kangaroo that was orphaned and being cared for by one of the tour companies' employees. She stole the hearts of everyone.

Katherine is quite a pleasant and important town strategically situated at the crossroads of The Victoria Highway that heads west into The Kimberley and the Stuart Highway that heads south to Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.
It is also one of the stopping places for the Ghan - that brand new enormous train that runs once per week from Adelaide Adelaide to Darwin and is about 2 km long. It is very impressive but also very expensive to travel on if you travel 1st class. On its way to Darwin - about 4 hours north, it stays at Katherine for 4 hours to give the passengers an opportunity to visit the Katherine Gorge and other places in the vicinity.
