(16) Peter and Bette's adventure
A brief account of the places we visited.
The supervisor!
Meekathara (417km)
Is another smallish but important typical outback town with good sealed roads and infrastructure. It was the first Australian town to be powered by solar power. We stayed the night here and also sent some emails.
Whist here we noticed two Land Rovers outside the email office that had obviously just come across the desert. They were covered in sponsor's logos and my curiosity was aroused enough for me to introduce myself. Todd Borgie was the man I spoke to and he told me about their exploits. They are encircling the world raising money for Parkinson's disease research but travelling down the world through the Americas, then up through Australia, Malaysia - eventually Russia and over the top back to their starting point. I hope I have got that right because I have not yet had time to go to his web site to get the true facts. I promised to email him sometime and he insisted I do that. My brother died from this terrible affliction a few years ago. Todd's web site address is www.drivearoundtheworld.com. For those interested.
