(18) Peter and Bette's adventure
A brief account of the places we visited.

Elaine said they had been without rain for 3 years until about 2 weeks earlier when they had a short burst. She was hoping for more soon. The lady would be in her 50,s and had recently opened a little display area for visitors and sells a few souvenirs and cards as well as small samples of gold. She was serving on the Shire council and her aim in life apart from running the mine is to get a better deal for the "small man" (prospectors) who had been pushed around by the big boys who made their lives difficult.

We enjoyed a couple of drinks and a pasty for dinner in the pub bar before retiring exhausted. The temptation of a roast dinner was almost too much to resist but past experience told me to be cautious - a large dinner before bed is not a good idea!
We'd love to return to Paynes Find to see the flowers and talk some more to Elaine so who knows what the future holds.
