A memory of Mick (Chick) Hitchcock by Sid Sheard

Dear Richard.

Just to let you know that the funeral of Mick (Chick) Hitchcock was very well attended, such was the feeling for a very popular and well liked person who had a wonderful send off. Mick Hickman came over from Spain for the funeral, so there was a lot of catching up to do in the RMA afterwards. I joined up with Mick in January 1954, and from the first day we met he always had a warm and friendly smile which he carried with him all through his service and civilian life. I had an email from Bob Chumleigh who also joined up with me in 54. He sent me the squad photo of the completion of our first months training. I would be most grateful if you could post it on the Band web site, and hopefully it will stir up a few happy memories. Sadly like Mick another member of that squad who is no longer with us is Chris Fry who went through Boys Wing with me in Neptune House. Mc Mckenzie another squad member who I see every now and again lives in Dover, and Dave Aves I see at the reunion in Pompey. As for the remainder where they all are is anyone's guess so it would be great to hear from them wherever they are. I hope you and your family are all well Richard and in good health. As usual Deal is starting to look good now that the warm sunny weather is with us. The only thing that is missing is the sound of music coming from the concert hall and South Drill Field.
(Oh for the good old days). Well that's about it for now Richard.

Take care and kind regards to your Family.

Sid
