'Dan' Archer's visit with Henry Monaghan

Update Mar 8 - 2017

Henry now booked into the Premier Inn at Sutton Harbour. Arriving on Friday and leaving on Monday morning. I know Irfon Higgins and Bryan Walker are staying in the same place. Henry has a disability room. I will be attending the Buglers Reunion at CTCRM on the same weekend and Jock Paton as agreed to liaise with me to pick Henry up at Exeter Services to transport him down to Plymouth and hopefully the return trip too.

Last night I visited Henry with a friend who is an Occupational Therapist. She assessed Henry is fit enough for the trip and is advising him of a physiotherapist who works specifically with stroke victims. Henry has not done any exercise for about 3 years although he walks ok with a walking frame so he may need some assistance. Henry is very excited about the weekend and meeting you all again. Henry and I are going on a clothing run soon to get some new clothes. Believe me this trip has perked him up no end.
That's all for now.

Dan.

Update Feb 24 - 2017

Been to see Henry again today, I was glad to see he had had a haircut and didn't know I was coming -:)

Life is much the same for Henry however he has been delighted with and appreciates all the phone calls he has received from well wishers. Well done lads!

Henry is looking forward to attending the West Country Reunion in Plymouth and wants to contact Andy Clarkson who has apparently offered accommodation to Henry for the weekend.

Henry is also trying to get a copy of the 1985 Mountbatten Concert CD where he performed as Al Jolson. If anyone knows where he can buy one or has they can run of a copy can you please let me know.
Henry has also had his medals stolen so a heads up for anyone who peruses medal sales on EBay. Henry had GSM Northern Ireland South Atlantic Medal with Rosette and an LSGC with Band Corporal Monaghan H Q003824T engraved on the rim. I have contacted a Bootneck buddy to find out the routine for replacing Henry's medals.

Henry is quite isolated still so enjoys the phone contact he his receiving.

Contact me for Henry's number if you do not have it.

Dan.

As reported on Dickie's (Richard Valentine) site 'Billy' (Bryan) Walker had spoken to Henry Monaghan and discovered Henry has suffered a stroke. Henry has been out of touch for many years so as I live nearby I paid him a visit yesterday.

Henry has lost left side use of his arm and some mobility and requires a team of cleaners and personal needs carers who come in daily. Henry is not very mobile at the moment and is also suffering from diabetes. However, other than that Henry looks great and has not lost any memory and we chatted for a couple of hours.

We went through the memorial list on Dickie's site to bring Henry up to speed with our colleagues who have passed on which in several cases was a shock for Henry.

Henry is missing his music especially his violin and guitar. Henry was keen for me to pass on his thanks to all his well wishers and asked to be reminded to all his shipmates. Henry has no Internet and uses the land line telephone for comms. If anyone wants to chat to Henry, I encourage you to do so, please pm me for his contact details.

Henry is being well cared for and has organised a laundry service for himself so is looking squared away. I will continue to visit Henry to check he is ok.

Regards
DAN.
