From Tom Lambert
HMS Duke of York 1945
Christmas

Dear Richard,

Here is another photograph of Naval folk lore, now all but phased out I guess. It shows Admiral Lord Bruce Fraser and Capt A.D. Nichols, the then Capt. of HMS Duke of York and an extremely brave officer taking their customary glass of Good Cheer with the band (and every other mess in the ship!) for Christmas 1945. In the background are, on the left, a Royal Marine orderly, then Ted Lee, then Ike Finnegan then Syd Lee (no relation to the former) then Polly Perkins. The rest of the band including me are in the background. This marvellous picture was taken by Basil or Gordon Kidd, I can never remember which one we had.
