Ron Kempton

Hi Mick, (Hutton) I spoke to Barbara yesterday and Ron Is in QEQM Hospital Margate, not Deal. Apparently he is very ill with respiratory problems & on oxygen a lot of the time. Vicky his daughter was flying down from Aberdeen because he seemed critical. Barbara is still planning to make their planned move on 17 Jan, I think to York, near her daughter, as their apartment in Dover Rd has at last got a buyer after five fell through for one thing or another. The hope is for Ron to improve enough to be able to transfer to Deal Hospital in due course.
I hope his response to well-wishers will be more gracious than his last bout in dock two years ago...? I seem to recall you telling me that when you got through to him he told you to f**k off! But for old times sake I`m sure we all wish him well.

Yours aye Terry (Freestone)

Dicky you asked to be kept in the loop for Ron, well he has been rushed into Deal hospital and is very poorly.

As you know he has not been in the best of health for some considerable time. He has breathing problems and has to spend periods on a machine to ease the problem. This has meant that his mobility has been curtailed.

Barbara his long time partner said his weight has "ballooned" due to fluid retention and this has exacerbated his breathing problems and he is in the high dependency ward.

He and Barbara were due to move to York early in January.

I am sure that there are some of his old friends reading this on the site and would maybe like to send a "Get Well" card which Barbara could take in to him. Their home address is

Hi Richard

I thought you might like an update on Ron Kempton.

Terry Parker his wife Beryl, myself and my wife Freda visited Ron and Barbara in Deal whilst Freda and I were up on a visit before we went away on holiday together to the Med. Gib doesn't change except it's quicker to get up to the top and the apes have got older.

I hadn't seen Ron since we were boys together in days long gone bye but when we all started chatting it seemed like only yesterday that we last met. Ron was in great form considering what he has gone through, he doesn't get around too much but he's not lost his sense of humor. Barbara is his pillar of strength and keeps him as active as his condition allows.

I'm sure Ron and Barbara would be pleased to see any of Ron's old friends as he doesn't get out much but they have asked that if anyone does think of a visit that you give them a ring. Ron's medical routine means he needs a bit of warning before entertaining visitors.

See you at the Reunion.

Best regards

Ian Epps.
