Ian Walton - In Memoriam

Hello Brethren,

I learned last night at a masonic meeting in Wrotham of the death of: RMB/X 2168 Staff Bandmaster Ian Stretton Walton LRAM on 19 November 2012.

Ian joined in 90 squad in 1944 as a Euph & Cello, was Bandmaster in LION in about 1960 and would have gone to pension around 68 or 9. He had lived in Chatham for many years and worked at the BAE works at Rochester airport. His wife died about 5 or 6 years ago, a son died tragically by his own hand, and Ian suffered from dementia in the last few years, moving into a nursing home for his final years. I understand there is a daughter whom I shall try to contact; until I can get more info the whole story is murky.

I shall attempt to contact the Almoner of his Chatham lodge and find out more detail in the next few days.
It is extremely sad to think that one of our own was laid to rest wihout any of his Band Service brethren being present to pay tribute. More when I have anything, until then, thank God our bands did us proud at the Baroness Thatcher funeral today.

Best regards Terry Freestone
