Wally and Rena Walters

Wally has finished chemo and had a scan yesterday. We now have to wait for an appointment with the oncologist to get the results. He had an unexpected trip to hospital last week with a nasty chest infection but is on the mend. He's still taking the pills!
When he was first diagnosed and so convinced he wasn't going to make Christmas I booked a party for his birthday next month. He'll be 75 on the 23rd and the party to celebrate his birthday and completion of his chemo is at The Alma Pub in West Street on Saturday 25th February from 7.30 pm. Disco and food provided, buy your own drinks!
If you want to put in on the notice board all shipmates who can make it are welcome - including you, if you're over.
The tumour has shrunk; he cannot be cured but has been given longer and we don't think about "what if?". Life is for living and that's what we're doing!
We've moved to 12 Bamford Way (the old hospital) and are enjoying spending our kids' inheritance!!
Hope all is well with you. Best wishes to all.xx

Regret to inform you that Wally has finally been diagnosed with lung cancer. Treatment complicated by his heart problems, pacemaker and diabetes but they are going to try low dose chemo in the hope of shrinking the tumour. He looks, and feels, better than he has done in months and is off bowling at the moment! He wants everyone to know that he feels fine and is enjoying life. Lots of gallows humour flying around! Will keep you informed.

Wally finally home with a diagnosis. Recurrent bouts of pneumonia, blockage at base of left lung causing a partial collapse of same. Bronchoscopy still on cards (to find out what the blockage is) when he's a bit stronger but treatment via outpatients rather than as an inpatient.
He looks better and I'm feeding him up! Not so worried about him now and glad to have him home where I can keep an eye on him. It's been a rough three months but he seems to have finally turned the corner.
Thanks for your good wishes and lovely comments - no friends like the old ones.
Love Rena xx
PS Sorry for delay in replying laptop needed our Graham's tender care to get it working again. Senior finger fumble!

Dear Richard, I got this from the secretary of Globe & Laurel Lodge Deal this morning about Ray J Walters RMB 3529
(oboe), best wishes Terry (Freeston)

I have spoken with Rena Walters this morning and this e-mail is distributed with her consent.
Bro ‘Wally’ was admitted to Invicta Ward, Kent & Canterbury Hospital, on Tuesday last, as a result of extreme dizziness caused by very low blood pressure. His condition is improving but he will remain in hospital until his condition stabilises. You will be aware from an earlier e-mail of mine that he had lost a lot of weight, and that is still the case. Rena is of the opinion that his recovery will take months rather than weeks.
Currently he can only be visited by members of his family.
Rena will inform me as and when the situation changes, and in turn either Jim Williams or I will keep you posted
Bill Howie

Wally is fine now, still gets a check up with the heart nurse each month, other than that he's back to normal and fighting fit.

Dear Richard

Thank you for your good wishes. You obviously put my message on the board because there are lots of emails (when I opened up tonight) with good wishes for us both. Wally is doing well and passed his assessment today and I was assured that they got all the cancer when they removed my breast. It doesn't bother me, I'm just thankful to still be here. They're keeping a close eye on me and I'm taking the pills!

Rena.

Wally had a heart attack and had five grafts (he's well on the mend) and I was diagnosed with breast cancer so it's not been a good year.
