HMS Vernon used to be a Naval Base but in recent years has been sold off to private enterprise. The armed services in England have suffered many cuts. Now the old base is a beautiful marina with luxury apartments. The original bow figurine still stands there for historic purposes. HMS Vernon has undergone "conversion" to civilian commercial and private enterprise.
