Fire at disused church

Dickie,

About 20 homes were evacuated when a fire broke out at a disused church near Deal. Twenty firefighters were called to tackle the fire in Walmer just before 0330 BST on Monday. The homes were evacuated because it was feared the church, which had been converted into a concert hall, would collapse. Residents were given shelter at a community centre and a nearby pub. Motorists were diverted by police away from the incident in Canada Road.

Just got home to see the news and it does look like the Concert Hall has been gutted by a fire. Only the walls seem to remain but you may get some more information from some of the local boys. I hope the Garden of Remembrance has survived.

Hello Alick, and all readers! As per Steve Misson and as the photo's show, the "garden" is no more. Follow up news would be appreciated by all and will be posted here as and when information comes through. ~ Dickie Valentine
