MEMORIAL SERVICE ~ 22 SEPTEMBER 2020

by Graham Hoskins

This morning’s annual memorial service attended by the bereaved and some close friends and taken again this year by the sister of Bob Simmonds was a poignant occasion. Superb weather, uniformed personnel from Headquarters Portsmouth with an excellent rendition of Last Post & Reveille by a Cpl Bugler. No music because of Covid restrictions but otherwise a significant day of great relevance for colleagues who were determined to be there. I attach these two pictures taken this morning. The first shows the site of the tragic event in 1989 and the second is of the window of the Conservative Party offices in Walmer. Brilliantly planned with the names of those who died in large easily read letters and positioned on The Strand just across Walmer Green from the Bandstand. All Corps Musicians remain highly respected In this little seaside town and here thirty-one years on from disaster we have proof positive of that fact. As ever, Graham.
