A Christmas Greeting - 2023 |

In wishing colleagues a very happy Christmas I thought they may appreciate
this painting of the royal yacht Britannia in Spithead with the Isle
of Wight’s Osborne House, favourite of Queen Victoria, in the
background. Clearing Britannia's bow is King George V’s ‘J
class’ sailing yacht, also called Britannia, and the old Victoria
& Albert royal yacht is astern. It may be of interest that the ship’s
wheel of the ‘J class yacht was taken from her before she was
scuttled on the orders of King George V and that this same wheel was
installed in Britannia, now berthed in Edinburgh, and used throughout
its entire life until the ship de-commissioned. Margaret and I hope
we are all able to enjoy peace and good health over the period of Christmas
and on into the New Year.
