The sad passing of David Blackmore

Retired Bugler Major David Blackmore (Ply/x 5159 also known as Blackie) served from April 1947 till April 1972 – 25 yrs & 2 days.

Our father passed away on Sunday 15th August 2021. He had been part of the Royal Marines Band Service, the majority of which was at the RM Eastney Barracks in Portsmouth. He also was in charge of the RM Volunteer Boys Cadet Band at Eastney for 11 years and took the boys around England and Jersey. Following on from this he worked for IBM as a large systems manager and took early retirement from this job after having a heart operation in 1987.

Unfortunately, Dad was diagnosed with Vascular Alzheimer’s Dementia in 2016 and had to go into a Care home, after Mum Eileen passed away peacefully, aged 91yrs, sitting holding Dad’s hand on 3rd April 2019. On his death we were also told that he had leukaemia which was a shock. Dad was always a great inspiration to us all and will be sorely missed by his family.
